Press Fact Sheet: Quadros Systems, Motorola and Metrowerks partner to
provide a complete MCU/RTOS/tools solution for embedded control systems
On November 18, 2002, Quadros Systems, Motorola, and Metrowerks announced
their partnership to provide a complete hardware/RTOS/tools solution for
microprocessor-based networked embedded control systems.
The solution consists of Motorola’s new ColdFire MCF5282 32-bit
MCU (with on-chip flash, 10/100 Ethernet and CAN networking interfaces),
integrated microcontroller Quadros’ advanced RTXC™ Quadros™
real-time operating system (RTOS) and networking software, based networking
software suite, and Metrowerks’ CodeWarrior development tools. When
applied to a wide range of applications such as home networking and security
systems, smart vending machines, exercise equipment and industrial controllers,
the solution promises to simplify and shorten end-product design and development
cycles and bring embedded networking one step closer to penetrating traditional
and emerging markets.
The software suite includes the RTXC Quadros RTOS, a scalable real-time
operating system supporting both thread and task based kernels, and extensive
networking support including core Internet protocols such as IP, UDP,
TCP, ICMP, ARP and DHCP; an HTTP web server, a trivial FTP server for
remote firmware updates and SMTP for e-mail alerts.
Three versions of RTXC Quadros software suite will be available over
a range of prices and functionality to match variable needs and design
complexities. Availability of the new Motorola processor and the integrated
software suite is Q1 2003.
For those developers looking for an immediate embedded networking solution,
Metrowerks offers their Embedded Networks Edition for the Motorola MCF5272.
This integrated package includes a Motorola development board, CodeWarrior
IDE and Quadros operating system and networking stacks.
