Quadros Systems Announces Support for Freescale™ i.MX™ Applications Processors

Dual scheduler in RTXC/dm convergent processing RTOS optimizes streaming media performance while delivering real-time control

Booth # 411

ARM Developers’ Conference, SANTA CLARA, CA - October 19, 2004 - Quadros Systems, Inc., a leading supplier of configurable and scaleable real-time operating systems (RTOS), today announced support for the i.MX applications processor family from Freescale Semiconductor. i.MX applications processors are targeted at the rapidly growing portable multimedia space where music, video, gaming and communications are converging. The RTXC Quadros dual-mode RTOS (RTXC/dm) with its dual scheduling model supports both synchronous data flow processing and asynchronous control processing in a single-kernel architecture allowing the developer maximize the efficiency of his application when using these distinctly different processing models.

“The i.MX family leverages the power of an ARM9 core with a rich set of integrated peripherals for multimedia applications,” said Tom Barrett, Quadros Systems CEO. “The unique structure of the RTXC Quadros RTOS supports dataflow processing for multimedia applications such as audio and video streaming with a cooperative scheduling model for rapid context switching and, in the same kernel architecture, supports the hard real-time and general processing needs of the application with a prioritized, preemptive, event-driven model.”

Based on ARM core technology and designed for use in smart phones, wireless PDAs, mobile entertainment and many other mobile wireless applications, Freescale's i.MX family is engineered to offer low power consumption with real-world power performance and a high degree of integration to reduce design time significantly. Current processors in the family include the i.MX1 and the i.MXL.

To complement the on-chip peripherals of the i.MX family and application needs that span MP3 players to smart phones, Quadros provides i.MX developers with a wide range of optional stacks and middleware integrated with the RTXC/dm RTOS. These include RTXC Quadnet TCP/IP (with Mobile IP option), IPsec/IKE security module, RTXCflashfile, IrDA, Bluetooth, and USB host/device support, plus the PEG GUI development tools and libraries.

Price and Availability

The RTXC/dm for i.MX is available immediately and is priced starting at $15,500 for a single project license. The RTXC Quadros software development kit (SDK) supports the Freescale M9328MXLADS applications development system.

About the RTXC Quadros Family of Real-time Operating Systems

RTXC/mp is one of four highly scalable real-time operating systems in the RTXC Quadros family, offering distinct performance advantages for each of the major processing models. RTXC/ss (single stack) utilizes a cooperative scheduler to support high data rate and signal processing applications. RTXC/ms (multi-stack) is optimized for control processing using an event-driven, prioritized, preemptive scheduler. RTXC/dm (dual mode) marries RTXC/ms and RTXC/ss and is ideal for convergent processing applications which combine DSP/dataflow and RISC/control processing in a single-core architecture. Both RTXC/ms and RTXC/dm are brought together under RTXC/mp in various combinations to support multicore and multiprocessor implementations.
