Quadros Systems Delivers USB Connectivity for Embedded Devices

RTXCusb features host- and device-side stacks and class drivers

ESC: #1141

Embedded Systems Conference, San Francisco, CA - March 7, 2005 — Quadros Systems, Inc., a leading supplier of configurable and scaleable real-time operating systems (RTOS), today announced the availability of RTXCusb, a suite of stacks and class drivers for full- and high-speed USB implementations. Knowing today’s need for the integration of software components into the RTOS, Quadros Systems specifically developed RTXCusb to support the growing number of embedded developers who want to integrate USB plug-and-play functionality into their products.

After becoming the dominant standard for connecting personal computers to peripherals such as printers, mice, keyboards, and external memory, USB has moved rapidly into the embedded space. Popular USB implementations involve embedded devices that connect to PCs for diagnostics, service, repair and data analysis. USB technology is also commonly used for removable storage and to connect human interface devices. As USB technology makes its way into more and more embedded devices, Quadros Systems’ customers are implementing this technology across a range of applications such as factory automation, transportation, building control and security, point-of-sale, and environmental controls.

"Embedded developers are asking us to deliver more comprehensive solutions," said Tom Barrett, president of Quadros Systems. "This trend is driven primarily by shorter design windows and smaller development teams, and complemented by the growing number of silicon manufacturers who are delivering highly integrated processors. RTXCusb gives our customers the confidence of a comprehensive USB solution, integrated with the RTXC RTOS family."

The RTXCusb host side solution includes a host stack and host side class drivers for human interface devices (HID) mass storage, and printers. Controller drivers are available to support OHCI, UHCI and EHCI standards. The RTXCusb device side solution includes a device stack with class drivers for HID, mass storage, and CDC Ethernet. Sample drivers are provided for device side controllers. The RTXCusb suite supports both full speed (v1.1) and high speed (v2.0) standards. The RTXCusb class driver structure is readily extensible to support other classes and applications.

Availability and Pricing

The RTXCusb suite is available immediately. Single project licenses start under $10,000.

About the RTXC Quadros Family of Real-time Operating Systems

RTXC/dm is one of four highly scalable real-time operating systems in the RTXC Quadros family, offering distinct performance advantages for each of the major processing models. RTXC/ss (single stack) utilizes a lightweight specialized executive to support high data rate and signal processing applications. RTXC/ms (multi-stack) is optimized for control processing using an event-driven, prioritized, preemptive scheduler. RTXC/dm (dual mode) marries RTXC/ms and RTXC/ss and is ideal for convergent processing applications which combine DSP/dataflow and RISC/control processing in a single-core architecture. Both RTXC/ms and RTXC/dm are brought together under RTXC/mp (multiprocessing) in various combinations to support multicore and multiprocessor implementations.
