Quadros Systems Supports Latest Blackfin Processors
RTXC/dm only dual-mode RTOS available for Analog Devices' BF536/7 MPUs
ESC: #1141
Embedded Systems Conference, San Francisco, CA - March 7, 2005 - Quadros
Systems, Inc., a leading supplier of configurable and scaleable real-time
operating systems (RTOS), today announced RTOS and communications stack
support for the recently announced Blackfin ADSP-BF536 and ADSP-BF537
processors, dual-core processors that combine control and data streaming
capabilities in one core along with standardized communications interfaces.
These newest members of the Blackfin family are functional extensions of the
popular ADSP-BF531/532/533 processors. With integrated support for Ethernet
and CAN along with a high-performance processor core, they are ideally
suited for a variety of networked applications including video security and
surveillance, industrial control and factory automation, remote monitoring,
VoIP, point-of-sale terminals, and biometrics.
With RTXC Quadros dual mode RTOS (RTXC/dm), Quadros Systems is able to
optimize both the RISC and DSP capabilities of the processor. By combining
a lightweight executive requiring minimal context for DSP threads with a
protected prioritized, preemptive kernel for event-driven tasks, RTXC/dm
ensures that both RISC and DSP application code execute with maximum
efficiency. The two kernel structures are organized by priority with thread
processing always operating in a higher priority zone than control tasks.
The communications capabilities of the BF536 and BF537 are fully supported
by integrated Quadros communications software. RTXC Quadnet TCP/IP is a
high-performance networking stack developed to meet the connectivity needs
of embedded applications. The stack supports IPv4 or a dual v4/v6 option.
Add-on protocols are available to support web server, email, file transfer,
device management and more.
RTXCcan, a suite of CANopen software, contains all functions necessary for
implementing slave or simple master devices according to the CANopen
specification DS301, version 4.02. RTXCcan enables quick development of
CANopen devices with an easy-to-use API. Both RTXC Quadnet and RTXCcan are
fully integrated with the RTXC Quadros dual mode RTOS.
"These new Blackfin processors offer a new and powerful option for
customers wanting to combine control, network connectivity and leading-edge
signal processing in a single core architecture," said Stephen Martin,
director of marketing for Quadros Systems. “The design of RTXC/dm allows an
application to take full advantage of both the control/networking
functionality and the streaming data capabilities of the Blackfin
architecture. Add to that the integrated RTXC communications stacks and
you have a complete platform for embedded development.
All of these RTXC components support the Analog Devices VisualDSP++.integrated
development and debugging environment. This powerful tool includes a C/C++
compiler, assembler, linker and debugger for Blackfin development. Quadros
Systems has developed a plug-in to provide kernel-aware debugging within the
VisualDSP++.
Quadros Systems solutions are scalable across the entire Blackfin family,
reducing learning curve for new projects and preserving application code.

Price & Availability
Single-project licenses for RTXC/dm start at $15,500. Price includes a
source code distribution and a Software Development Kit (SDK).
About the RTXC Quadros Family of Real-time Operating Systems
RTXC/dm is one of four highly scalable real-time operating systems
in the RTXC Quadros family, offering distinct performance advantages
for each of the major processing models. RTXC/ss (single stack)
utilizes a lightweight specialized executive to support high data
rate and signal processing applications. RTXC/ms (multi-stack)
is optimized for control processing using an event-driven,
prioritized, preemptive scheduler. RTXC/dm (dual mode) marries
RTXC/ms and RTXC/ss and is ideal for convergent processing
applications which combine DSP/dataflow and RISC/control processing
in a single-core architecture. Both RTXC/ms and RTXC/dm are
brought together under RTXC/mp (multiprocessing) in various
combinations to support multicore and multiprocessor implementations.
About Quadros, Systems, Inc.
Quadros Systems, Inc. develops and markets RTXC technology, bringing
together RTOS, hardware and software professionals into one development
team to provide innovative technology that maximizes real-time
responsiveness and eases the development process for customers. In
addition to the RTXC RTOS family, Quadros Systems offers a wide range
of communications stacks and middleware including RTXC Quadnet (a suite
of integrated communications protocols) and RTXCflashfile (a high
performance file system for resident flash devices). RTXC products
have been deployed worldwide in thousands of embedded systems, serving
markets such as communications, medical, and industrial automation.
