Quadros Systems Supports Latest ColdFire Processors

Small RTOS Footprint Enables Cost-Effective Single-Chip Mode

Freescale Technology Forum, Orlando, Florida, USA - June 21, 2005 - Quadros Systems, Inc., a leading supplier of configurable and scaleable real-time operating systems (RTOS), today announced support for the Freescale MCF521x family of microcontrollers, the most recent addition to the ColdFire product line. The RTXC Quadros RTOS and integrated middleware enable developers to take full advantage of the hardware features of the MCF521x family including the ability to run the RTOS and application software entirely on-chip with no external memory required.

With its attractive price point, large integrated Flash and RAM and multiple communications interfaces, the MCF521x processor family is an ideal choice for system developers who are looking to move up to a 32-bit platform. The small, scalable footprint of the RTXC Quadros RTOS enables developers to use these processors in single-chip mode with no external memory, speeding application execution time and reducing system cost.

"Freescale Semiconductor continues to introduce innovative products in the ColdFire family that offer excellent performance and value," said Stephen Martin, director of marketing for Quadros Systems. "We are pleased to be able to partner with Freescale to complement these devices with a broad portfolio of application-ready software."

The combined features of Freescale’s MCF521x microcontrollers and Quadros Systems' software make them ideally suited for a variety of cost-sensitive networked applications. These include industrial control and factory automation, building controls, remote sensing and monitoring, point-of-sale terminals and biometrics.

Quadros Systems offers an extensive suite of middleware integrated with the RTXC RTOS including RTXC Quadnet TCP/IP, IPsec/IKE security module, RTXCflashfile, CAN and USB. Quadros Systems solutions are scalable across the entire ColdFire family, reducing learning curve for new projects and preserving application code. About the RTXC Quadros Family of Real-time Operating Systems

RTXC/dm is one of four highly scalable real-time operating systems in the RTXC Quadros family, offering distinct performance advantages for each of the major processing models. RTXC/ss (single stack) utilizes a lightweight specialized executive to support high data rate and signal processing applications. RTXC/ms (multi-stack) is optimized for control processing using an event-driven, prioritized, preemptive scheduler. RTXC/dm (dual mode) marries RTXC/ms and RTXC/ss and is ideal for convergent processing applications which combine DSP/dataflow and RISC/control processing in a single-core architecture. Both RTXC/ms and RTXC/dm are brought together under RTXC/mp (multiprocessing) in various combinations to support multicore and multiprocessor implementations.
