Quadros Systems Speeds Wi-Fi development with software support for Conexant chipsets
RTXC customers can now quickly and easily add wireless networking to their embedded systems
September 25, 2006 - Alleviating the development pain of integrating wireless connectivity into embedded systems, Quadros Systems, Inc., a leading supplier of RTOS-based development and run-time software, today extended its connectivity software suite to support Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) software solutions based on 802.11 chipsets from Conexant Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: CNXT).. Quadros connectivity software solutions include TCP/IP (v/4/v6), USB, SDIO, including those needed to support WLAN chipsets.
IEEE 802.11a/b/g is the leading wireless internet connectivity standard for homes, offices and even coffee shops. According to In-Stat and the Wi-Fi Alliance, annual shipments of Wi-Fi chipsets now exceed 120 million per year with a 64% average yearly growth rate. Wi-Fi goes way beyond laptops and smart phones. Popular applications for 802.11x connectivity include medical devices, test & measurement equipment, POS scanners and shelf-talkers, media players and educational equipment. The challenge for developers is to be able to integrate technologies such as Wi-Fi into increasingly sophisticated and complex embedded systems. Quadros Systems has software and expertise in these areas to help simplify development and minimize the risk of new technology integration.
Conexant’s 802.11 chipsets are an ideal option for rapidly adding WLAN connectivity to an embedded product. Their unique self-hosted client technology handles all of the wireless processing in a USB dongle, eliminating the need for the developer to re-engineer his system with a more powerful CPU. Quadros Systems provides all of the networking stacks, USB software and drivers to support this powerful 802.11-ready hardware.
“Embedded developers want to embrace wireless connectivity but they are concerned about the complexity and risk,” said Stephen Martin, director of marketing for Quadros Systems. “Conexant Wi-Fi chipsets provide an integrated hardware solution. Quadros provides the same level of integration on the software side. Our suite of communications stacks and customized drivers gives the developer a packaged, easily implemented solution with a range of options to support low, medium and high volume Wi-Fi deployment.”
“We look forward to continuing our support for Conexant chipsets,” continued Martin. “They offer low power, small form factor 802.11 a/b/g support in a range of flexible options. We are now working on supporting next-generation WLAN technology from Conexant on the Analog Devices Blackfin processor family.”
“Solution partners such as Quadros Systems help our customers quickly and easily integrate our WLAN chipsets into their systems,” said Jayant Somani, director of Marketing for Conexant's Wireless Networking business. “With Quadros, much of the time-consuming integration is removed from the development process, saving development cost and accelerating time to market.”
Quadros Systems Wi-Fi connectivity solutions are available for a wide range of embedded processors including ARM, Blackfin, ColdFire, PowerPC and more.
