Quadros Adds MPC85xx Processor Support; Delivers Gigabit Ethernet Networking Capability

Integrated development and runtime software support for Freescale PowerQUICC III processors

Houston TX, July 16, 2007 - Quadros Systems, Inc., a leading supplier of configurable and scalable real-time operating systems (RTOS), broadened its support for devices based on the Power Architecture. The company now offers RTXC Quadros RTOS and Gigabit Ethernet support for the Freescale MPC85xx family of processors.

The MPC85xx family of processors from Freescale Semiconductor features an e500 PowerPC core and Communications Processor Module (CPM) to offload communications processing such as Gigabit Ethernet. The RTXC Quadros dual-mode RTOS—with its control and data streaming capabilities and more than 300 kernel services—effortlessly manages the complexities of the highly integrated PowerQUICC III architecture. The e500 also core includes a powerful signal processing engine which if fully supported by the RTXC Quadros RTOS. The SPE APU provides an extensive instruction set for 64-bit vector integer, single-precision floating-point, and fractional operations. The SPFP APU provides scalar (32-bit) single-precision, floating-point instructions.

For developers who plan to use the two triple-speed Ethernet controllers (TSECs) for 10/100 or Gigabit Ethernet, the high performance RTXC Quadnet TCP/IP stack features zero-copy send and receive to deliver maximum throughput. Jumbo frames are also supported when used in conjunction with Gigabit Ethernet. The RTXC Quadnet TCP/IP stack implementation is fully RFC-compliant for interoperability.

Quadros Systems supports development on the MPC85xx processor family using the Diab compiler from Wind River and the Trace32 debugger from Lauterbach.

The Freescale MPC85xx family includes the MPC8540, MPC8541E, MPC8555E, and the MPC8560

About the RTXC Quadros Family of Real-time Operating Systems

RTXC/dm is one of four highly scalable real-time operating systems in the RTXC Quadros family, offering distinct performance advantages for each of the major processing models. RTXC/ss (single stack) utilizes a lightweight specialized executive to support high data rate and signal processing applications. RTXC/ms (multi-stack) is optimized for control processing using an event-driven, prioritized, preemptive scheduler. RTXC/dm (dual mode) marries RTXC/ms and RTXC/ss and is ideal for convergent processing applications which combine DSP/dataflow and RISC/control processing in a single-core architecture. Both RTXC/ms and RTXC/dm are brought together under RTXC/mp (multiprocessing) in various combinations to support multicore and multiprocessor implementations.
